Dr. Andrea K. Wittenborn (she/her) is Chair and Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Michigan State University. She is the former Director of the Couple and Family Therapy Ph.D. Program. She also holds an appointment in the Division of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Prior to Michigan ... State University, she was Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Science at Virginia Tech.

Dr. Wittenborn’s research evaluates the process and outcomes of interventions for depression, including methods for personalizing treatment. She tests interventions that target interpersonal mechanisms of depression with the goal of decreasing depressive symptoms and enhancing close relationships. Her work has been funded by federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, as well as foundation and intramural awards. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on depression, couple interventions, and research methods.

Dr. Wittenborn has served her profession in numerous capacities such as AAMFT Board of Directors, Michigan Board of Marriage and Family Therapy, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy Advisory and Editorial Boards, and Editor of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy Decade in Review Effectiveness Issue. She is also a licensed marriage and family therapist and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Dr. Wittenborn has received several awards for her research and mentoring of graduate students.
