MSU HDFS senior Taylor Hughes-Barrow to give TEDxMSU talk addressing systemic bias and discrimination

Taylor Hughes-Barrow, MSU Human Development and Family Studies senior, gave a talk called From the Past to the Present, Understanding the Deep Roots of Discrimination at the TEDxMSU event on Wednesday, March 20.

“Our journey towards individual and collective change begins with intentional exploration of self,” she said. Reflecting not only who we are but also how we perceive those different from us. Recognizing that our perspectives are molded by early socialization and dominant narratives, we start unraveling the threads of why things are the way they are.”

With a focused emphasis on Law, Justice, and Public Policy, complemented by a minor in Digital Humanities, Hughes-Barrow is driven by a vision to revolutionize educational media and technology. The goal is to create resources that not only promote social and emotional development but also highlight critical social justice issues, facilitating a well-rounded growth and development across the lifespan. Beyond the academic pursuits, Hughes-Barrow is passionately committed to the broader mission of advancing a just and equitable curriculum across the nation. This commitment is manifested through vigorous advocacy for educational policy reform, aiming to reshape the landscape of learning to be more inclusive and impactful for all.
