Biography

Deja L. Young (she/her) is a doctoral student in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Couple and Family Therapy. She currently holds a limited license in Marriage and Family Therapy (LLMFT). Deja’s research interests include emotion regulation processes associated with racial socialization strategies among family systems with adult and adolescent-aged children. She is also currently ... involved in a few research projects: (1) a qualitative study examining the needs of parents participating in an evidence-based parenting intervention program, (2) a qualitative study on Black parents who do and do not give the talk as a racial socialization strategy, and (3) a quantitative study exploring the impact of depression and opioid use on couples’ relationships satisfaction. Deja’s professional career goals include teaching/mentoring students about racial socialization, conducting systemic therapy, training/supervising systemic therapists and conducting community-engaged research to aid Black families and their interpersonal processes.
