Child Development

My name is Emily Jensen (she/her/hers) and I am a doctoral student in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Child Development. My advisor is Dr. Sarah Douglas. My research interests surround supporting vulnerable children in medical settings. Specifically, I focus on children with special needs and children who have experienced trauma. These interests have led me to research the experiences of both professionals and caregivers in medical settings working with these populations. I am currently working on a meta-synthesis focused on understanding caregivers’ experiences with their children with autism spectrum disorder in various medical settings. My research draws on various developmental theories, family systems and family stress theories, and a desire to create inclusive and healing spaces for all children.
