Welcome to the nation’s most diverse and applied Human Development and Family Studies Department, where we are undertaking cutting-edge research with direct application for practice and policy. Faculty and students in HDFS are engaged in research across the world, such as Brazil, China, Mexico, Russia, South Africa and Malawi, and in collaboration with our department’s Child Development Laboratory schools and Couple and Family Therapy clinic. Our cutting-edge research includes interventions to explore and improve early child development and learning, parenting practices, stress in military families, depression outcomes in adults, and racial socialization and juvenile justice.
