Human Development & Family Studies | Michigan State University

Outreach

As part of our mission as a land grant university, the MSU Child Development Laboratories take an active role in outreach.

As an outstanding model for early childhood education, we welcome practitioners from across the state, country, and world to our labs. We are excited to share information about our work in supporting children's development in all domains. We model exemplary practice in support of children's social development.

Another facet of our work is teacher training. Students are supported in their professional development through conference presentations. Staff share their expertise through workshops, publications, and observational tours of their classrooms.

Teachers can also complete their required number of hours for their Early Childhood Endorsement (ZA) at the Child Development Laboratories.

A big thank you to MSU's Science Theatre for participating in our Family Science Night, November 2011.  We appreciated being able to tap into this great resource.  you can see Science Theatre offerings a www.pa.msu.edu/sci_theatre/.  Participants from Science Theatre are Patrick McWilliams, Andreia Barbat, Catherine McWilliams and JJ.

We serve our community through outreach by:

  • Being a welcoming and outstanding model for early childhood professionals
  • Publishing books, articles, planning, and training materials
  • Encouraging and developing international programs
  • Providing workshops

We serve Early Childhood Professionals by:

  • Providing an exemplary research-driven program within which university students can observe and practice their developing skills
  • Including students in a comprehensive early childhood educational program, which includes integration of literacy across the domains, the use of anti-bias curriculum, and advocacy for children
  • Supporting each student in his or her professional development by providing an emotionally safe environment
  • Providing written and oral feedback
