Karlin Tichenor Awarded the AAMFT Minority Fellowship

Karin TichenoKarlin Tichenorr, a doctoral student in the Couple & Family Therapy program at HDFS, has won the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Minority Fellowship. The AAMFT Minority Fellowship's objective is to expand the delivery of culturally competent mental health and substance abuse services to underserved minority populations and to increase the number of doctoral level culturally competent ethnic minority Couple and Family Therapists.

Karlin in interested in research focusing on the development and maintenance of healthy, rewarding relationships in African American couples; his goal is to develop community supplemental programs for youth as well as programs that focus on overcoming or coping with historical traumas to foster deeper and stronger bonds between men and women in African American couples. Karlin's clinical work is with international refugees at Lutheran Social Services of Michigan.
